Interview: 'Cowboys & Aliens' Star Daniel Craig talks violence and Han Solo's

Saturday, July 30, 2011

We sat down with Daniel Craig in Missoula, Montana to speak of, literally, the cowboys and aliens saddle, and a joke on Harrison Ford, and the pleasure the continuing violence.

According to Olivia Wilde, "There's nothing like the sight of Daniel Craig remained. "

The actress made the confession of our recent interview with Jon Favreau new Western / Sci-fi hybrid Cowboys and Aliens (read our review). After being with Craig in the beautiful Missoula, Montana Cowboys Quark forced us to the wild nail on the head to his proverbial bold statement. Even the beautiful countryside to compete. Craig has a quality of sharp intelligence, almost animal that some of his recent characters perfectly (especially Jake Lonergan in this film, and of course, James Bond) served. "One gets the feeling that you are different pieces of information is processed very quickly - both human and environmental -. And decisions based on these assessments course, all in a constant flow of information, but the process of Craig just feel more awake and aware than most One gets the feeling that it does not suffer fools -. though it was very kind, friendly and charming during the interview.

Craig has a sense of maturity of an adult male, which is rare in so many actors today. In our interview with Jon Favreau, the director explains:

"There's a lot of people can play this role. Most people his age are children. They feel like the guys who have enough experience to repent and feel redemption is needed. They believe that most people get older . the story and he was a good role. "

All the above qualities and characteristics (duration, strength, intelligence head) lend themselves to interpretation in Craig Jake Lonergan Cowboys & Aliens. Lonergan embodies many of the classic tropes of the Western Cape, what makes the film as a strange silence, a man without memory, a man of violence, which eventually developed. Although Lonergan developed as a character in the course of the film - which features some eternal. It was immediately mercilessly. He is willing, without hesitation, without mercy.

"It's a ruthless instinct," said Craig to our perception of our round table in Montana.

"And that's what I like. In all good westerns, the good man is always a bit dubious, because such moral judgments. There is an instinct in him that the survival and murder. I mean let's be honest. And during the movie, there is a kind of redemption. He woke up first this horrible experience. Harrison's character so well, going through a kind of rescue procedures as well. What excites me, give it a couple of levels and I love bad boy, good. This is a kind of "the most interesting people. "

Craig, like the rest of the cast, has longed for the opportunity to resolve a cowboy to play "their all" for the role, a balance between the pursuit of the reality of the circumstances as well as fun and humor. In fact, much of the time, was the humor in the circumstances be taken seriously.

"Well, I think the title does it all. I think the title is sent and our task has not been sent. And we all agreed and it was certainly one of the reasons that the work done. Not every wink time something happens. is a kind of risk, but you have to go as a movie, you need to take that risk. I think the easiest way is a joke every time something unusual happens to be. I it's fun in a real way people respond to, if we're discussing, it is fun is because of the situation in relation to the nature of the harassment of the audience to laugh. It was fun the first time I saw "Blade Runner" I saw this bill on marriage and "Outland. "Outland" is a western, is Sean Connery and people. Mix. Are mixed and they always do. For the love of Christ, Han Solo is not a cowboy! "

The event gave us as a group is forced to ask if it is difficult for a Han Solo blaster and no jokes. He said Craig, "I never stopped." When asked for an example, which unfortunately were denied: "No, I can not," laughed Craig. "I can not enable secret well. I have the advantage of all that stuff. It was the only way to maintain sanity with their work."

As with the iconic Ford Harrison (and in a film, a number of federal and Han references go hand in hand to beg), Craig said he was pleased with his co-star whom he admired, and also determined that the work they do.

"I'm a fan, and like a lot of people. But he's an actor and I was fortunate enough to discover that working with great actors in the first place if you do it right. Came to many ideas fuel, but also humor and grace and all those things you expect someone, but you can not wait. I wanted to participate in the film. I was like "f ** k is like anything you want. [Laughs] But on the advice, I could talk with Harrison until the cows come home. The cast: Sam Rockwell and Olivia, Adam and Paul Dano - who is the absolute intention of Jon Favreau had a cast put together as best as it is an extraordinary idea and we had the best actors to each part, Clancy Brown, everyone. "

The devil is in the details, as they say, and all fans can see, the Cowboys & Aliens is that special care in the casting (as Craig mentioned) right down to every last character in the movie. There is also a strong sense of longing for the authenticity of the West to capture. Jake Craig Lonergan very clear example ... never lost his hat.

"Do not lose your hat," Craig told us, laughing. "All the Wranglers in the game ... I have my hat a few times, I had a case of beer every time I lost my hat for sale. Motherf ** ker So I recorded on my head."

Part of the fun of a film like this, of course, action. When Craig was asked what he did best: hand to hand the violence or the larger set pieces enthusiastically responded, "Only violence!" At what point do we begin to understand why the instinctive cruelty of his character come so naturally to the actor. Then he take the time to reply in all seriousness it, Craig shows that although a person riding a living, and as such was a bit of a learning curve for this film, which eventually lead to the most enjoyable aspect of the operation:

"I do not know. The best there was only room every day. That is, in fact it was just that. If you are bad for the mind comes to work, or just some kind of bad mood on a horse was something like" . Ah, here we go "All is calm down a bit and you know, your appearance and we were in a beautiful landscape. I get a kick out of the action to take, always. It's kind of one of the reasons I wanted to be an actor was that he would fall, so I kind of gave me a chance. "

Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig bought the horse, while shooting is completed and now the reports of the animals, we were tempted to ask Ford if he would "have a good life and not to work." Shop with us, but somehow remember.

Craig was very close to the animals, and said: "If I were a piece of land, a patch of grass, I bought my horse."

The issue of Cowboys & Aliens can not fail to see how people react to the time represented the first contact with alien technology. Something they want to benchmark. The first reaction is, of course, generated from a biblical framework, but is much more active defense - if it accepted that we respond today.

"The leap of faith is one of the ... I mean, obviously there is something in the beginning of the film say they are demons. I think that life in the Wild West, and it was heaven and hell and a dusty earth. And the fact that they work together on something, immediately they think they are being punished for something wine. and he takes the next step for such people suddenly, "F ** k and we will be using to are, in fact (I've said, but it makes sense), we go to the 'go you know, literally Posse will meet foreigners and our families will be taken. "

One of the basic principles (though implicitly) present in this film is the idea that foreigners (or beings in general) is the last bastion of a representation of pure evil. An enemy who can sit and enjoy seeing how cruel our heroes visceral fighting and killing ... long, with no sense of consequence. We are far beyond the point where it is acceptable practice demonizing a group of people, yes, there are few options for a simple type of good against evil. During the interview Craig said Western policies of the 70 performances film so far limited to the "cowboys" and revise the actor what he thought of the idea that there is a place where we can not "Indians". excuse, see the senseless violence and death.

"Well," laughed Craig said: "This is called" Cowboys & Aliens. ""

"But seriously try the widest possible audience -. This is not the movie or the development of ideas to discuss, but it's interesting." Why the aliens' After the war and the nuclear age? Was a lot about aliens attacking, was a constant threat. There's a whole thesis to write about and I'm sure you will. People have a Ph.D. in this thing and the direction in applied science fiction culture, because there are other fears in our lives. But it is much easier and more morally right to strangers than with the wind another. "

The irony is that this correspondent was intended as a written document this morning. We called Craig a very good pen for people to have had.

Craig (as mentioned) is a fan of the western genre a little more success in the past year (especially with the Coen Brothers 'Grit' True) seen. When we asked the actor whether he will remain west of additional features, said:

"Yes, I think, perhaps without a foreigners in. It's an incredible story. There is always a moral argument in the West. There are decisions about life and death, so everything is getting bigger. And a horse hat and a gun. "

You can see Craig do everything and anything else on the Cowboys and Aliens in theaters.
